Despite the confusion in his mind, Rai's expression did not change. He did not look surprise nor did he seem like he was judging Satok. Besides, his brother was literally Reman, he was was the last one to be judging others for their circumstances of birth.
"As a Romulan in Starfleet I understand you have to consider the dichotomy of Starfleet and the Republic. There is still much work to be done on a societal level, I will not deny our shortcomings on that," He spoke, hinting at the rampant paranoia that still plagued the society. They were the Republic now, but a new name, new people in charge, that was not going to change centuries of paranoia and secrecy. "You are acquainted with my dinam, Solait," Rai looked a tad surprised when he heard this, raising an eyebrow. So did that meant Renakir was on this station? He would certainly have to talk to his brother about furthering the paranoid Romulan stereotypes. He loved Renakir, but the boy was too cautious at times.
"I will speak honestly with you, Lieutenant. Paranoia is still a way of life for many Romulans, but it is not the society I, and many others serving alongside me, are trying to cultivate. The Republic is still in its infancy, but with the help of people like you and I, I hope that one day we can have a fully open and honest society, a place where all Romulans can feel welcomed regardless of the circumstances of their birth," Rai spoke with sincerity and honesty, not even a hint of subterfuge. He was truly Renakir's brother.
